A clearer visitor visa document checklist
Start with your purpose, then organize the evidence that supports your trip.
The right visitor checklist depends on why you are travelling and where you apply. Your personalized IRCC checklist and any visa office instructions take priority over a general list.
Start with your travel purpose
Tourism, a family visit and a business visit may require different supporting evidence. Explain your purpose plainly and make sure the itinerary supports it.
Organize your documents
Prepare identity records, relevant invitation details, a realistic itinerary and evidence of how the trip will be funded. Review the official checklist for every applicant, including children.
Check local instructions
The visa office may request additional documents for your country or territory. Use your actual application location when reviewing those instructions.
Fees and processing
Government fees and professional fees are separate. Check current IRCC fees and processing estimates before submitting. Processing times are estimates, not guarantees.
Before submitting
Check names, dates, financial explanations and travel plans for consistency. Keep a copy of the complete submission.
Common question
Is this a final checklist? No. Use this as a planning aid and follow the current official checklist for your application.
A practical file-order worksheet
Create five folders: identity, visit plan, funding, host information and circumstances at home. Write a one-line description beside each document explaining which fact it supports. Then compare the folder list with the personalized IRCC checklist; your planning folders are not a replacement for the required upload categories.
For a family visit, record the host's relationship to you, the accommodation arrangement, intended dates and who pays for each expense. For tourism, make the proposed itinerary and budget understandable. For a business visit, identify the actual event or meeting and check whether the planned activities fit the visitor rules. Do not reuse a relative's application without checking the differences.
Final consistency check before uploading
Compare passport spellings, birth dates, employment dates, travel dates and financial figures across every form and attachment. Open each final file to confirm it is readable, complete and within the requested format and size. Follow translation instructions for documents that need them. Save an exact copy of the final submission rather than a folder containing several contradictory drafts.
A checklist marked complete does not mean approval is likely. If a document is missing, unavailable or inconsistent, identify the issue before submission and seek advice on the appropriate explanation. Start an enquiry with the type of visit and the documents you are unsure about; keep account passwords and sensitive identity records out of the initial message.
