The direct answer

Start with your acceptance records, identity documents and financial evidence, then check whether a PAL or TAL and any additional documents apply. The official instructions determine the complete checklist.

Check your school and program

Verify the institution and the immigration requirements relevant to the course you selected. Explain how the program fits your education and plans.

Show how your studies will be funded

Organize tuition, living and travel funding evidence. A clear source of funds matters alongside the available amount. Use the current official funds requirement.

Review attestation requirements

Check whether you need a provincial or territorial attestation letter. Requirements and exceptions must be verified for your application type.

Fees and processing

Check current government fees and the estimate for your application location. Do not treat an estimate as a guaranteed date for joining your course.

Common question

Does admission guarantee a study permit? No. The school’s admission decision and IRCC’s immigration decision are separate.

Next step

Use the checklist to identify missing records before preparing a submission. Information about student work or PGWP remains informational only.

Use a document tracker with a reason for every item

Create columns for document, issuer, issue date, expiry or deadline, matching name and next action. Include the admission documents, any required provincial or territorial attestation, Quebec documents where applicable, education records, identity evidence and funding records. Mark a document as verified only after opening the actual file, not merely receiving a message that it exists.

If the institution changes the start date or admission conditions, identify every place the earlier information appears. Keep the previous version for your records, but use a consistent current set in the application. Do not assume a deferral automatically updates information already submitted to IRCC.

A worked funding organization example

Suppose tuition is paid by a parent, living expenses come from the student's savings and travel is paid separately. List those three costs and sources separately. Link the parent's contribution to their support statement and financial evidence, the student's contribution to the actual account records, and paid tuition to the institution's receipt. Do not count a transferred sum twice in both the parent's and student's balances.

The relevant minimum is selected by application date, province and family size. For longer courses, explain the plan for funding the full programme as well as the first year. If the record includes a recent large deposit, retain evidence of its source. Our funds estimator helps with arithmetic; it does not verify the authenticity or sufficiency of financial evidence.
