Proof of funds: amount and evidence

Check the applicable requirement and prepare a clear financial record.

The direct answer

Whether you must show settlement funds depends on the Express Entry program and your circumstances. If required, verify the current family-size table and the evidence IRCC asks your financial institution to provide.

Check whether the requirement applies

Use the official guidance for the program you are applying through. Do not assume every Express Entry applicant follows the same funds requirement.

Use the correct family size

Read IRCC’s definition of family size before selecting a row in the current table. The amount can change, so verify it before submission.

Prepare the financial records

Check the required bank letter details and explain your financial circumstances accurately. Funds must meet the applicable official conditions.

Common question

Can this website provide a current amount without verified rules? No. The tool needs the current official data service; the official page remains the verification source.

Next step

Compare your records with the official evidence requirements and resolve any gaps.

Build a family-size and funds worksheet

Record your spouse or partner and dependent children according to the official definition, including people who are not accompanying you where the rule requires it. Use that family size in the table for the relevant programme. An amount calculated only for the travellers can understate the requirement.

Then list each proposed account or financial source, its owner, accessible balance and any restrictions or debt connected to it. Identify the official bank evidence needed for each account. Keep the records dated and consistent; a screenshot of a balance may not contain all the information IRCC asks the financial institution to provide.

Review exemptions and changes separately

Do not assume that a job offer by itself creates a funds exemption. Read the complete conditions that apply to the programme, including any required authorization to work. If you are unsure which programme applies, keep the full funds requirement in the planning budget until the question is resolved.

Track exchange-rate movements and changes in balances when your money is held outside Canada. The calculator reports Canadian-dollar minimums and does not guarantee that a foreign-currency balance will remain sufficient. Keep evidence of legitimate transfers and sources of money, and recheck the official table at the relevant stage. Borrowed funds or unavailable property equity should not be presented as readily accessible settlement funds.
