# Visit Canada

> Make your visit a clear, well-prepared plan.

## Overview
Understand the travel document for your trip and prepare a clear account of why you are visiting. A visitor visa and permission to remain in Canada serve different purposes.

## Who it is for
People planning tourism, a family or friend visit, or an eligible business visit.

## Eligibility
Your passport, travel document, purpose and travel arrangements determine the route to check. Use current IRCC guidance for your situation.

## Documents to prepare
## Start with the purpose of the visit
Before assembling files, write down the basic facts: who is travelling, the reason for the visit, the intended dates, where you expect to stay and who will pay. This is an organizing exercise, not a script to copy into every application. Your explanation should reflect the trip you actually intend to make.
A parent visiting an adult child, a tourist planning a holiday and a person attending a business meeting can need different supporting evidence. Use the current IRCC application instructions and the checklist generated for your situation to decide what belongs in the submission. Official application instructions.

## Make the documents tell the same story
A useful preparation method is to group documents by the question they help answer. Keep identity and travel documents together. Group trip arrangements separately from financial records and the information about your host. Then compare dates, names and explanations across those groups.
For example, if your draft itinerary describes a two-week visit but a host’s letter refers to a much longer stay, resolve the discrepancy using the real plan. Do not change facts simply to make the application look stronger. If the plan has genuinely changed, make sure the final information is consistent.
Our visitor checklist is a planning aid for organizing your preparation. It cannot replace the personalized document list or a request sent by IRCC. Keep a final copy of everything submitted so you can understand and respond to any later request.

## Budget for more than one fee
Use the government-fee calculator for the application type and family situation, then check its official source. Keep government charges separate from any professional fee and third-party costs. Ask for a written service scope before agreeing to paid support, including what is included, what is excluded and who will deliver it.
Check the current government fee in the fee calculator and request a written professional quote that explains currency, applicable taxes, included work and any extra charges. If a package starts at a quoted amount, confirm what can change the final price before engaging.

## Understand the processing estimate
Use the India processing page to check the latest published estimate for the correct application type. Read the retrieval date and any stale-data notice. An estimate is not an appointment or a guaranteed decision date; your own letters and official account remain the sources for requests about your file. IRCC processing estimates.

## If you have been refused before
Begin with the actual refusal letter, any decision note you received and the previous submission. Organize what the documents say before deciding on a next step. A new application should not simply repeat the old material with a new cover page. Questions about legal remedies or deadlines need appropriately qualified advice.

## Understanding a refusal
Review the stated concerns before reapplying. Reusing the same documents without addressing those concerns can leave the original questions unresolved.

## Frequently asked questions
### Does a visitor visa guarantee entry?
No. The border officer determines admission and the conditions of your stay.

### Can I extend my visit?
Check the visitor record instructions. Extending your stay and renewing a travel visa are different processes.
